I think requirement 2 is key. They have a long term approach to digital marketing, while social marketing does require a new approach, it's not completely different than previous digital toolsets. I would add that they should demonstrate previous ability with 'emerging technologies' from previous eras, like the web, mobile, to show their ability to innovate.

I'm not so sure about 3, as the candidate should be able to demonstrate both work and personal experience with social --and I'm not sure specific numbers will ever be able to tell ability. Sure, an indicator, but as like you say a "Preferred" Qualification.

<text>I think it has to go one step further than having a passion for social media/technology. They need to have a passion for using communications tools to solve marketing problems.</text>

<text>I understand why they should demonstrate that they embrace social media but would caution against quantifying Facebook friends in particular. Many people use Facebook exclusively for very close friends and family, not for business while LinkedIn and Twitter are more likely to be business related and therefore have a larger community. I agree that there may be other ways to demonstrate interest, love and experience with social media - running a blog or even showing they have commented on blogs for example.</text>
