Seriously, get more local! There are great musicians everywhere. They bring in customers and deserve Best Buy's support.

Would love to see more indy hip-hop, since the mom and pop shops are becoming more and more scarce.

Sounds good in theory, but the problem for large corporations is that is not a sound economic investment. Yes, it may please local shoppers, but the stock is not useful in the system, outside of the band's demographic/geographic location.

Best Buy could buy local stores like Newbury Comics in the Boston-area and create a store within a store to be more locally friendly.

First talk to the radio stations in the area and get them to play the music of local musicians, and not just one night a week during a special program.
Flag as inappropriateMost local musicians sell their CDs at the locations they play. They don't charge sales tax and often sell for less than you could get the same CD in the store for. This is too much competition in my opinion.

Best Buy is one of the top leaders in having local music. Although they will carry almost any local band if they are popular in the stores surrounding areas, the bands also have to do something. There is a form they fill out and then Best Buy will contact them if they decide to sell their CD.

Employee Response: Best Buy will carry any local band if they are popular enough in the store's surrounding area. There are some forms that need to be filled out and product to be available from the band from Best Buy, but after all of that is done and approved for Best Buy will carry it in store.

Local bands can sell their CD's in Best Buy. They need to go to any Best Buy location with a musical instruments store and register there.

This is something Best Buy has already taken initiative on. Through RegionalCD.net, unsigned artists can submit their CD to Best Buy.

Redsox13 - If BB were to buy up a Newbury Comics, I would cry.
Flag as inappropriateI heavily frequent NC to buy used CDs and other stuff that most stores can't/won't sell.

I think localization is a fantastic area for Best Buy to expand into. It makes perfect sense and they're already proven that their capable of implementing "local" features in some of their stores (like Music in Austin).

Get involved with your area communities. Not just the one that your store is located in. There is likely not another bestbuy within a 2 hour drive and many people from surrounding communities (myself included) drive a pretty substantial distance to get to your store.
